September 11: God is Our Refuge and Strength

Scripture

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; He utters His voice, the earth melts. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow, and shatters the spear, He burns the chariots with fire!
“Be still and know that I am God. I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth!”
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Psalm 46, selected verses

A Brief Word

It’s hard to believe that we are now seven years distant from the events of September 11, 2001. The world has changed since that day; we now all live from a different reality.

However, one thing has not changed. As the Psalmist wrote, “The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.” It is He alone on whom we can depend. It is He alone in whom we can place our trust. For He alone is faithful, and He will never forsake us.

Thanks be to God!

Prayer

O most loving Father, You want us to give thanks for all things, to fear nothing except losing You, and to lay all our cares on You, knowing that You care for us. Grant that no clouds in this mortal life may hide from us the light of Your immortal love shown to us in Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN
