The parable of the Sower from Mark 4:1-20 points to a sower who went out to sow. It then describes the four places that the seed had fallen, on the path, on the rocky ground, in the thorns and in the good soil. Jesus goes on to explain the parable to the disciples that the seeds that fell on the path, in the rocky soil, and among the thorns perished. The seeds that were sown in the good soil “Hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.” The challenge for Christians is to sow the seed in a world that is becoming more separated from the church and God’s word. The parable points to the difficulty as well as three of the sowings do not make it but the fourth one does. So maybe the idea is to sow as many seeds as possible and then allow God to spring up the fruits of the harvest of thirty, sixty and a hundredfold.
We are encouraged by Jesus’ words to sow seeds and plant God’s word of loving our neighbor and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ in the world. So what do you say about sowing some seeds today?
God’s peace be with you,
